Last week, Norma asked a few of us coaches if we would be her guinea pig to test her yoga class programmed for CrossFitters. Her goal was to get feedback on what exactly CrossFitters want and to know what someone who isn’t into yoga would like in a class. Ultimately, this would supplement and help out with their CrossFit. We were skeptical, but she mentioned that there would be no “weird #namaste stuff” which lead to a packed trial class! Well, there were six of us.
The result, I loved it and truly believe I need to do it more! To me, I thought of this as an “Active Recovery” day. It was a way to loosen up tight muscles and truly dedicate an hour to good stretching. Coming into this class, I had tight hips and a stiff lower back. As we went through the class, Norma had us focus on varying stretches in the hips, holding it for a few seconds, then changing the angle and repeat. It felt good! She scaled every position because I have crappy flexibility. I even started to think some of these positions are not possible. Unfortunately, I would look left and see Coach Chris in the exact position Norma had demonstrated. That jerk! It made me realize that I need to get on that level.
Norma’s yoga class was great and we received positive feedback from the folks that took it. Some of the other guinea pigs were new to CrossFit and new to yoga. When asked if they would take the class again, they answered “Hell yeah! When’s the next class”. I myself really enjoyed the class and will continue doing yoga. It’s not because I wanted to beat Coach Chris (sorta), but I know it’s what my mind and body needs after a tough week of CrossFit programming. Best of all folks, we are offering this yoga class for free! Come try it out! Come with an open mind! And come enjoy active recovery with us!
We are still determining a firm schedule, but for the time being here are the initial class offerings:
